Sonam Kapoor

By Nadi

Is there anything Sonam Kapoor won’t say? She famously called writer Shobhaa De a “fossil who is getting no action and going through menopause” on Twitter. Now, she says Katrina is “shameless.” In an interview with film reporter Anupama Chopra in Cannes, Sonam said she would like to “give Katrina a bouquet.”
When asked why, she said: “I have no idea how she does it. You need a certain kind of dedication and a certain kind of shamelessness to do particular things.” That is severe, Sonam. May we remind you that Katrina had two hits a year ago with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.

And has a movie opposite each Khan coming up soon. However, Sonam’s last 2 movies were Players and Mausam. Enough said.

uk visa for students

Do you need a visa?

You can find out if you need a visa on the UK Border Agency website. Applying can take some time, so if you do need a visa it is important to apply well in advance of when you intend to travel. You can find out about visa processing times in your country on UKBA's visa service pages.

What kind of visa do you need?
There are a number of different types of visa available.
  • Tier 4 (Child) student visa: You can apply as a child student under Tier 4 of the points-based system if you are between 4 and 17 years old. If you are between 4 and 15 years old, you must be coming to the UK to be educated at an independent fee-paying school.
  • Child visitor visa: You can apply as a child visitor if you are 17 years old or under and you want to come and study in the UK for up to 6 months. This includes activity-based programmes such as football summer school. You cannot switch and apply for a Tier 4 (Child) student visa while you are in the UK as a child visitor. If you want to apply for a Tier 4 (Child) student visa, you must apply from the country where you live.
  • Tier 4 (General) student visa: You can apply as an adult student under Tier 4 (General) of the points-based system if you are coming to the UK for your post-16 education. If you want to apply for a Tier 4 (General) student visa, you must apply from the country where you you live.
  • Student visitor visa, and extended student visitor visa: If you are 18 or over, and you want to study in the UK for up to 6 months, and you do not want to work while you are here, then you will need a student visitor visa. If you want to study purely English language courses, you can apply for an extended student visitor visa that allows you to stay for up to 11 months. You can only apply for the extended student visitor visa from outside the UK. While in the UK on a student visitor visa, you will not be allowed to switch and apply for a Tier 4 (General) student visa.
  • Prospective student visa: You can apply as a prospective student if you want to come to the UK to help you decide which course to study, or if you plan to start a course of study within 6 months. You will be able to switch and apply for a Tier 4 (General) or Tier 4 (Child) student visa while you are in the UK.
You can find out more in the UKBA's Studying in the UK pages.

Tier 4 student visas for adult and child students
For adult Tier 4 (General) and child students coming on Tier 4 (Child) student visas, the UK has a points-based visa system which is designed to be objective and transparent.

To apply, you need to gain 40 points:
  • 30 points for a 'confirmation of acceptance for studies' from the university, college or school where you want to study - your chosen place of study must be on the UKBA's official Register of Tier 4 Sponsors (approved education providers). This register is designed to give you peace of mind that you are applying to join a genuine institution.
  • 10 points for showing that you can afford to cover all or part of your fees and living costs to study in the UK. This has been put in place to help you avoid any financial difficulties that might affect your ability to complete your studies.
You can use the UK Border Agency Points Calculator to estimate whether your visa application will be successful.
UK schools, colleges and universities with Tier 4 students
In the last few years, the UK government has introduced tough new regulations for UK schools, colleges and universities who wish to teach international students. This has helped to improve the quality of UK education more than ever, and it shows!

About 265,000 final-year students at higher education institutions (HEIs) and further education colleges (FECs) in the UK responded to the 2011 HEFCENational Student Survey:
  • 83 per cent were satisfied overall with their course
  • 84 per cent were satisfied with the quality of teaching on their courses.
Student visitor visa
This visa is for people who want to take a short course of study while they are visiting the UK – for example, a beginner’s English language course.

If you come to the UK on a student visitor visa, you are allowed stay for up to six months. That goes up to 11 months if you wish to attend exclusively English language courses.

Emraan Hashmi the producer’s actor

Emraan Hashmi
Actor Emraan Hashmi is quite the producer’s actor. Despite his upcoming film Rush getting delayed a few times, the actor has continued to support the film. And with the crime thriller releasing this weekend, the actor shot for a special video at the last moment, taking time out from his other projects.
A source reveals, “Rush will now be releasing on its original date on Bakri Eid. But the producers wanted to do a fresh photoshoot as well as posters for the film. They also wanted to do a new video. Though Emraan is extremely busy with his other film projects — Ek Thi Daayan and Ghanchakkar, he took time out to come for the shoot. He didn’t make a big fuss about the last minute addition. He believes in the film. And though the film got delayed after its director Shamin Desai passed away, Emraan has stood by his movie and the producers though there has been a slight delay in its release.”
The film revolves around the story of a struggling reporter, whose life turns upside down after he receives an assignment from a media tycoon. Emraan says, “I’m really proud of the film and I think we have done a great job. I stand by it and have tried to help out in whatever way I could. I hope the audience appreciates our efforts.”

MUMBAI: Bollywood’s wedding of the year – Saif-Kareena’s wedding, a union the entire media and fans just could not wait for took place this month.
With royalty etched in every shred of their being, the couple more than met the whole nation’s anticipation with the high opulence quotient at all their functions, which were kick started on 15th October.
A very private Sangeet at their terraced home in Fortune Height Apartments, the paparazzi only got a few brief glimpses of the lovebirds and their exclusive guests entering the building. Of course, a few sneaky reporters managed to bribe a watchman of a nearby under construction building and click some really intimate moments from the party. Suffice to say, this did not go down well with the Nawab of Pataudi.
The next day, 16th October, the duo had a very simple registered marriage with the Registrar themselves coming down to their shared apartment. No saath pheras, No nikaah, No fuss.
But surely that wasn’t the end of it all? Hell, no.
Raising the bar of destination and extravagant weddings to a whole new level, the new Mr. and Mrs. Khan first threw a king size celebration at the luxurious 5 star Taj Hotels of Mumbai. Everyone who’s anyone in Bollywood made an appearance.
Again, did the paparazzi get a chance to spot the bride – her costumes, her jewellery, her make up? No, no and no.
It was only the next day that her close friend Designer Manish Malhotra took mercy on the new Begum’s fans and tweeted a picture of her.
Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan next took the action to the Capital of the country. Mother in law Sharmila Tagore threw a glorious ‘Daawat e Walima’ for Delhi’s ‘Diwaan e Khaas’. High profile guests from the political, filmi and cricketing arena arrived. But the media couldn’t come close to catching much of the action.
Last the duo went on to their ‘hometown’ – Pataudi, at the palace steeped in centuries of history. Once again, with extremely tight security it was difficult to get a sneak peak.
Now, finally many days later, rare and unseen photographs of the couple at the various occasions have surfaced.
Bollywood’s new blushing bride, Kareena Kapoor Khan looks quite exquisite in the heavy heritage gharara she is wearing, passed down to her from her lovely mother-in-law as a family tradition.
